Engaging with the Making II
Exploration and experimentation

The old keys, lone earring, and pendants (found at the Agra-Antikmarkt, Leipzig on 24 May 2025) were given new purpose with the addition of keychain components and a pair of round-nose pliers.
As mentioned in the previous post, the cowrie shells were derived from a faulty trivet found discarded outside a store that was closing down in Leipzig.
I found another lone hook earring at a flea market in the GRASSI Museum in Leipzig on 19 July 2025. I had to modify the design as some parts had dropped off.
The keychain can be a means to repurpose items previously not intended to be keychains. When the keychain components I ordered on Amazon finally arrived, I discovered a freedom to easily swop or add parts, transforming the function of the object in an instant. These pieces reflect my personal interest in working with overlooked and seemingly unwanted objects, reimagining their meanings and, in a way, embody place, time and circumstances.
I am not a keychain-maker and have in the past been engaging with other art forms and materials (e.g. wood, textiles, leather, print, painting and hand-drawing) where the processes are more tedious. This exercise was fascinating, for sure, and somewhat healing.
